Starting therapy can feel like a big step. We aim to make the process clear, supportive, and easy to follow. Here’s what happens when you reach out.
Contact us in whatever way is easiest for you:
You do not need to have the “perfect” words—just tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll take it from there.
Our administrator, Scarlett, will respond and ask a few brief questions to get an initial sense of what you need (for example: what you’re seeking support for, scheduling preferences, telehealth vs. in-person, and any access needs).
This helps us move you forward efficiently and thoughtfully.
Next, Scarlett (r someone in our admin team) will set you up in our secure electronic health record (EHR) system and schedule you for an Initial Assessment (Intake) with one of our intake clinicians.
They will also review fees and payment details with you at this stage so you know what to expect.
Your initial assessment will be a virtual visit, so they will send you a link to that appointment, as well as paperwork for our agency that must be completed before your intake appointment.
Your intake appointment is a full 60-minute session. It includes a thorough biopsychosocial assessment (meaning we ask about multiple areas of your life and history) so we can understand your needs and provide the best possible match for ongoing care.
A few important notes:
The intake clinician is not typically your ongoing therapist.
This session is a clinical service, not a brief consultation.
You nust complete your new client forms in the Client Portal before this appointment time (otherwise your intake will have to be rescheduled).
Because it is a full assessment session, it is not free and is billed at the same rate as your ongoing session fee (which you will arrange with Scarlett).
After the intake, the intake clinician writes up the assessment. It is then reviewed by our Clinical Director (Dr. Kieran) to confirm fit, safety, and the most appropriate next steps.
This review process helps us:
Confirm whether StorieBrook is the best fit for your needs
Identify resources for referral if there are additional supports you are needing
Identify the clinician on our team who is most aligned with what you’re seeking
Identify a provider who has an opening that matches your schedule and financial needs
Once a clinician is assigned, Scarlett will reach out to connect you with your therapist and help you schedule your first ongoing session.
From there, you’ll begin regular therapy sessions with your assigned clinician, and can communicate directly with them about scheduleing.
If you are starting relationship counseling, each person involved must complete the intake process separately. This helps us gather accurate information for everyone and ensure safety, clarity, and fit.
After each individual intake is complete, you will be assigned together to a relationship therapist for joint work.
If you’re unsure where to start, or you have access needs you’d like us to consider, please reach out.
We’re happy to help you navigate the first steps.
