Dismantling Barriers to Affirming Care
for Marginalized Identities
Advancing equitable access to mental health care for individuals across the spectrum of sexual, gender, and relational diversity, neurodiversity, and other marginalized groups — by reducing financial barriers, fostering culturally responsive care, and investing in community-driven support systems — grounded in the belief that affirming care is a right, not a privilege
Purpose:
The StorieBrook Foundation’s purpose is to reduce financial barriers to affirming mental health care for marginalized communities — including those with diverse sexual, gender, and relational identities; neurodiverse identities; and other marginalized groups — by collecting and distributing funds to reimburse therapists who provide low- or no-cost services to those most impacted by systemic inequities.
The StorieBrook Foundation will reimburse licensed mental health professionals who provide low-cost or pro bono care through our provider organization, StorieBrook Therapy & Consulting. The StorieBrook Foundation will also subsidize training in culturally responsive and affirming care for these providers. All activities of the StorieBrook Foundation shall be carried out exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Foundation will screen potential recipients in collaboration with our provider organization, StorieBrook Therapy & Consulting, to determine need and suitability for available services. Participants will be seen by clinicians from StorieBook Therapy & Consulting, who will be reimbursed a portion of the rate charged for services to these clients.
Growth Goals:
As the Foundation expands, we plan to increase the providers with whom we collaborate, to include other providers of affirming care in our area, and beyond, as we are able.
